Curriculum & Assessment at Looscan Elementary
Supporting Student Success Through Title I
At [School Name], we are committed to providing a high-quality education for all students. As a Title I school, we receive federal funding to support programs that help ensure every child meets challenging academic standards. Two key components of this work are our curriculum and assessment practices.
What is Curriculum?
The curriculum refers to the content and skills students are expected to learn at each grade level. It includes subjects such as reading, writing, math, science, and social studies, as well as social-emotional learning and enrichment activities.
At [School Name], we follow a rigorous, standards-based curriculum aligned with the Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills (TEKS). Our instructional materials are research-based and designed to:
-
Support diverse learning needs
-
Prepare students for grade-level success and beyond
-
Encourage critical thinking, creativity, and collaboration
Our teachers receive ongoing professional development to effectively deliver the curriculum and tailor instruction to meet the needs of all learners.
What is Assessment?
Assessment refers to the various tools and strategies we use to measure student understanding, track progress, and guide instruction. Assessments help us identify strengths and areas for improvement for both individual students and our school as a whole.
Types of assessments we use include:
-
State Assessments (such as STAAR)
-
District Benchmarks
-
Classroom Quizzes and Tests
-
Progress Monitoring Tools
-
Diagnostic Screeners
In a Title I school, assessment data is essential for:
-
Identifying students who need additional support or intervention
-
Personalizing instruction to meet each student’s needs
-
Monitoring progress toward grade-level standards
-
Evaluating the effectiveness of Title I-funded programs
